Saved Man in the Jungle on CD

Before Christian hip-hop found it's mainstream voice, there was A Saved Man (In The Jungle)-a raw, fearless, and unapologetically bold statement that shattered expectations and kicked open the doors for a new wave of faith-fueled rap. Originally released in 1990 on BAI/Broken Records, this long out-of-print classic remains a pivotal moment in hip-hop history, merging street-level authenticity with an uncompromising message of redemption.

SFC (Soldiers for Christ) wasn't just another rap act-they were pioneers. At a time when hip-hop barely had a foothold in the Christian music world, SFC stood alongside the likes of ETW and pre-Free at Last dc Talk, proving that rap had a place in faith-based music. Led by Chris Cooper-better known as Super C, later Soup the Chemist, and eventually Sup the Chemist-SFC brought a level of credibility unmatched by their contemporaries. With razor-sharp lyricism and beats that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of the era, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) blended hardcore hip-hop with jazz and reggae influences, drawing inspiration from Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Ice Cube.

This groundbreaking album features guest MCs Dynamic Twins, M.C. Peace, and Poetic Lee, adding even more firepower to an already explosive record. The production, mixed and engineered by Gene Eugene (Adam Again/Lost Dogs), weaves in elements of funk, gospel, and comedy, with samples ranging from Saturday Night Live's Church Lady to Adam Again's signature grooves. The track "Can't Wait" even nods to classic rock, incorporating Creedence Clearwater Revival's Down on the Corner into it's infectious hook.

Now, for the first time in decades, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) returns in a Legends Remastered CD edition, meticulously remastered by Rob Colwell. This 2025 Retroactive Records release is limited to just 300 copies and comes housed in a jewel case with a 12-page booklet featuring lyrics. With it's iconic cover stylized to read both SAVED and SLAVED, this album continues to challenge, inspire, and move listeners.

Sup the Chemist once told CCM Magazine that his mission was to "reach drug sellers, club hoppers, and other people you wouldn't find sitting down and listening to a church choir." More than 30 years later, that mission still resonates. Whether you're revisiting this classic or discovering it for the first time, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) demands to be heard-loud and unfiltered. Don't sleep on this reissue, because once it's gone, it's gone. For fans of Public Enemy, N.W.A., Sup the Chemist, E.T.W., Ice Cube.
