Leon J. McCormick, Jr. Minneapolis, MN Leon was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he began his music education at the age of 8 playing piano. After four years of piano, he began studying the tuba and was drafted in to the high school band in the sixth grade. Because of his attraction to lower register instruments, he also began playing the bass guitar. Leon began writing music at the age of 17 has continued writing and performing since that time. He attended 2 years of college at Grambling University where he played tuba with the Marching Tigers. He attended 2 years of college at Northeastern State University in Talequah, OK concentrating in music. He has also played bass with bands all over the United States, including James Brown, Count Basey and Ted Nugent. In 2001, Leon formed his band called "Who Nu" and his company called Musical Underground Dwellers. He hired some of the most talented players, singers and engineers in the Twin Cities area. The idea for this album started with the song "Love My U.S.A., which was written in a state of passion and concern for Americans who seem to becoming disillusioned with their blessings and their freedom. From there, Leon wrote about coming back from being down and out (On It), the corrosion of the music industry (No No Baby, I Can't Buy That) and coming home to the love of family (BedTime Bluz'). This album is a mix of Funk, R & B with a little bit of Rap flavor. There are two instrumentals that will knock your socks off. About the artists: Leon McCormick plays bass, keyboards and vocals. He has been described as "the Expressive Face with a Funky Bass" and his playing has been compared to Larry Graham. Jerry Eskridge (vocals) comes from a family of singers and musicians and he's a choir by himself. Donald Thomas' vocals have been compared to Barry White and he's smooth and silky. Kevin Nord is a genius. His engineering capabilities compare to none. He's a virtuoso on the trumpet, sax and synth stick. And special thanks to Laurie Glaser, Melanie Moos, Scott Dercks and Markie Z. for their phenomenal contributions to vocals, guitar and piano.
