Fish Out of Sea on CD

Tony Khalife is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and tabla player who captivates his audience with a brilliant interweaving of Indian, middle-eastern, flamenco and rock 'n roll styles. His original blend of world music is an inspiration in unifying our global community. Tony Khalife was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in the spring of 1964. He grew up in the midst of the harsh civil war that plagued the country for decades. He was inspired by music at a very young age and taught himself to play the guitar between the lulls of Beirut street battles. During his teenage years, Tony was named 'Best Lebanese Guitarist.' He briefly attended the National Conservatory of Music, and in 1981 he joined The Marvels, a professional band that accompanied amateur singers for televised contests. Tony moved to California at the age of 20 to study at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in Hollywood where he graduated with honors. He also participated in the 'Berklee College of Music' correspondence courses. After graduating from GIT, Tony moved to the Bay Area to study yoga, mythology and traditional Indian singing with Satguru Sant Keshavadas, and Tabla with Ustad Zakir Hussain. Combined with other intensive studies of Eastern and Western music, culture and language, Tony has successfully integrated all of his explorations in a brilliant brew of world music fusion. None of the instruments Tony plays are native to his country of origin. The arduous path of educating himself in culture and music has resulted in his unique style. His original music continues to evolve through his focused practice, performing, teaching and writing. During the past decade Tony has been composing music for poets and story tellers and in 1998 he released his CD 'Fish Out of Sea'. He has also been acting in stage productions at Stanford University. Tony has been featured in Guitar Player Magazine, Bam Magazine, San Jose Mercury News, Palo Alto Weekly and Times Tribune as well as numerous other SF Bay Area publications and television spotlights in Lebanon.
