Thinking Fireplace on CD

Putois is the name Bob Mason attaches to his music and it's 1995 inception. The name derives from the short story of the same name written by Anatole France. After a frustrating time pursuing a writing career, Bob bought a cheap used Yamaha keyboard and, almost serendipitously as if the fates were aligned for him, won a broken 4-track recorder from a frump-faced efferent pool-shark and started experimenting with drones, noise and poetry. Bob locked away above his parent's home in New York planted the acorn for his improvisational beginnings, which immediately sprouted. His first raw release of these recordings 'Drunk, Insecure, Paranoid, Angry and Thinking Crazy Thoughts' is now out of print. Bob proceeded to build a vastly eclectic showing of experiments with 'The Putois Intervals 1996 - 1998.' During which he developed and harnessed his song writing abilities. In January of 98 Bob self-released limited copies of his first full length 'Dancing in a Cave with the Universe' and passed them along to friends and other local musicians gaining somewhat of a cult following with fellow home-recorders and the NY underground experimental scene. In the meantime Bob played in several noise collectives around the NY area. Then in early 1999 Bob moved to Chicago. Bob would still record at home and in 2000 recorded 'There Is a Heaven to be Found' to critical acclaim. With it's mixture of ambient soundscapes and sullen almost tearful acoustic numbers Bob began to truly grow as a musician as well as a songwriter. In 2003 Bob then released ' The Thinking Fireplace' on Inner Flight which became his introduction to the world. Following 'The Thinking Fireplace' Bob has recorded 'scummer in the summer' and will be releasing 'The Problem is Not a Problem Anymore'in 2007. Contact Bob at QUALIFIRES@YAHOO.COM.
