Pocket Change is a seven-piece funk project based in Seattle, Washington. With an updated funk sound described as a blend of Soulive and Tower of Power, P-Change has enjoyed great success as a band that can get audiences up and moving. Since the release of their self-titled debut album in September 2006, Pocket Change has created a buzz with their high level of musical ability, incredible stage energy, and deep groove. ***************** The Story Behind 4 ***************** Our first show as a quartet was more out of necessity than anything else. We wanted to play at The Triple Door's sweet bar, The Musicquarium, but our seven piece was just too big and loud. We decided to pare down our line-up to just four. All of a sudden the music we had been playing for years had a new life. The parts had more room to breathe, we had more room to explore and communicate, and tunes that were beginning to feel set in stone began to take a new direction. '4' is a compilation of the best tracks from six nights of live recordings, featuring all seven members of Pocket Change. It includes material previously recorded on our self-titled debut, as well as six brand new tunes. It's intimate, energetic, and most definitely Pocket Change. ******************************************************* Pocket Change has received radio play on KEXP, KSER, and internet radio stations across the US and Europe. Their first album was featured on CDBaby.com's front page, and received a glowing review after earning top spots on their Editor's Picks lists in the Funk and Jazz Fusion genres. The members of P-Change are all intensely focused jazz, funk, and fusion musicians who thrive on bringing their formal musical training and creative talent to the dance floor. Drummer Tarik Abouzied and bassist Jake Amster have developed the kind of pocket that funk and jazz audiences have come to know and love. Along with guitarist Cameron Peace and keyboardist Tim Wright, they provide the support and energy that trumpeter Scott Morning, alto saxophonist Art Brown, and tenor saxophonist Andrew Swanson need behind virtuosic solos and fiery horn lines. ********************* 'We get about 100 albums a DAY coming in here now, (about 100,000 total), and yours is one of the best I've ever heard.' - Derek Sivers, owner/founder of CD Baby ********************* 'Even without the full 7-piece band, 4 still represents all that is good about Pocket Change - superb musicianship, crisp compositions, and a fire not often heard in bands these days. And the fact that all the recordings were done in front of a live audience gives the album an urgency and immediacy that I've grown to expect from their shows. Whether 7 strong, or paired down to the quartet, one fact remains...P-Change is still P-Change!' - Jason Parker, KPLU Seattle ********************* 'Featuring a distinct 3 piece horn section, guitar that sits back but steps up when needed, and a Fender Rhodes that is functionally holding it all together, the resulting sound manages to be classic but not dated. Fans of mid-70's mainstays like The Headhunters and Tower of Power will find these instrumental jams right up their alley...' - CD Baby Editor Review ********************* '...a squeaky tight rhythm section, and some of the best soloing around, Pocket Change slams you through a crash course in hot, sweaty funk-mania...a solid case for being worthy keepers of the jazz/funk legacy...' - Steve Ward 90.7FM KSER Everett ********************* 'Pocket Change is a hot young septet raised on funk and fusion, assiduously dedicated to bringing the core strands of primal jazz through these forms...Man, these guys are exciting!' - Tom Peterson, Victory Review *********************.
