One Way Drive on CD

Penumbra, noun; plura, penumbrae- a partial shadow, as in eclipse, between the regions of complete shadow and complete illumination; an area in which something exists to a lesser, uncertain degree. Penumbrae originated in 2002 as a duo, with singer Lish providing vocals and Lance Alan on acoustic guitar. By the fall of 2003, the group grew to a quartet, adding a rhythm section comprised of drummer Todd Rhein and bassist Dan Jones. Working through Penumbrae's existing material, the quartet expanded it's sound into a full rock band, while maintaining the lyrical elements of the material's melodic underpinnings. In early 2004, the band expanded again, adding Greg Dreslinski on Hammond B3 and piano. The quintet format allowed Penumbrae to fully realize their sound: tightly structured, melody-driven adult alternative rock fleshed out by a range of warm instrumentation. In August 2004, Penumbrae began working with Third Monk Records' producer/engineer Jeff Robinson (Toad the Wet Sprocket, American Music Club, Lowen & Navarro) on One Way Drive. Recording commenced at Ferndale, Michigan's famed Tempermill Studios in mid-September and finished in the early March of 2005. Penumbrae are a Detroit-area quintet that plays melodic, acoustic-based rock. One Way Drive reveals the group fully formed featuring mature, emotional lyricism coupled with high-level musicianship. Evident throughout the material is a cohesive band vibe - with a strong group chemistry among the musicians. Lish's soaring, vocals guide the listener through the work's tight rock songs and emotionally charged songs. One Way Drive will appeal not only to AAA rock music fans, but also to Americana and country folk listeners.
