Description

Somewhere West Oclare on CD

Pat Kane is a regional artist, known as 'the Balladeer of the Southern Tier.' Raised in a large farm family in rural New York State, where so many Irish have settled, his music is based on his rural and Irish heritage. In a fanciful renaming, he has called his home region 'West o'Clare,' for the Irish county of his family origin. It's roughly the area of the Twin Tiers of New York and Pennsylvania, the Finger Lakes, Central and Western New York State. In other words, the area where Pat lives and works. It's away from the city, and the Irish there have strong rural ties. Over time, he has collected a group of 'native Irish' musicians (that is, native to his region) in a band known as 'West o'Clare.' In recent years, he has become increasingly active with schools as an artist in residence. Although he has connections across the US and the Atlantic, he spends most of his time within a few hours of his home, in a busy full time music career. This album consists about half and half of traditional Irish songs, and Pat's own compostions. There are also some traditional dance tunes here. His original songs reflect his life as a farmer, but also as a regional bard. A real collector's find.
