Tell Me a Story on CD

Three years ago Pamela had never sung in public. Two years ago she had never written a song. Last year she wrote and produced her first CD, Tell Me A Story. Sometimes my friends ask me 'did you write that song about me?' In most cases, no. Where do the songs come from?... Summer Fun: I was falling asleep one night, and the phrase - Summer breezes dance with the butterflies - popped into my head. Then I just sang it over and over to myself, and eventually, the song evolved from there. It was a warm evening, we were having beautiful weather in Cambridge, and I was in a dreamy, summer mood, which totally comes out in the song. I also wanted it to be playful, like being somewhere in the Caribbean, sitting around on a beach, sipping cold fruity drinks and having a ball. Middle of My Dreams: This one came out of some reflection of internet dating, and just dating in general outside of the university context, in late 30s+. There's so much more to think about and building relationships happens much differently. So I was trying to capture that, and the magic of how it happens to get to know someone amid that complexity. At the time, I wasn't involved in a relationship, just imagining how good it could be... Winter Blues: This song came to me practically fully formed. I wanted to write a jazz song, with a jazz form (AABC), and I wanted it to have a romantic feel. The days in winter seem quite long in the UK, and there is this unrelenting grayness to it. I wanted to capture that feeling, and also the idea that the bright spot in all that dreariness was thinking about someone special. It is a really sweet song, and if you listen very carefully, at the end, you can just hear some birds singing... harbingers that love is on the way... Easier Than Going: This is the song I get asked most about. I was really pleased when it made it to the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting contest as it was the first song I ever wrote! I definitely wrote this about myself, I had ended the relationship that drew me to Cambridge (UK) and was doing the open mic circuit. I wanted to write a song, and they say - write about what you know. This is what I knew about this relationship, and probably a few others I've been in...
