Mile High Fan: La Recordings 1988-1993 on CD

Pop rock demigod P. Hux (Parthenon Huxley) reveals the fruits of his early Los Angeles labors on this surprising and entertaining album released by nine18/Not Lame. Recorded at MCA Publishing's artist-friendly studios in late 80's and early 90's, Mile High Fan ideally should've followed Huxley's Columbia Records debut, Sunny Nights, released in 1988. Alas, events intervened. But now that it's here, we get to enjoy Huxley's sometimes raw, always real takes on a variety of topics, including Los Angeles culture and it's effects on the otherwise sane person he was before moving West ("Mile High Fan", "Junkies", "This Isn't Yesterday", "Shiny Sun"). Huxley's gift for singalong pop is never bogged down by his cryptic lyrics--even when he casts his detail oriented eye on world events he's able to make obscure topics like Albanians seeking diplomatic immunity into a catchy pop mini-masterpiece ('Goodbye, Tirana'). Beyond the cool lyrics and always memorable melodies, there's plenty of musical firepower supplied by Huxley's band. Rusty Anderson, Rob Ladd and Jen Condos all went on to play with some of Rock's greatest names. Anderson with McCartney, Ladd and Condos both with Don Henley and many others. Huxley, of course, joined Electric Light Orchestra Part II in 1998. To top it off, Mile High Fan even includes cameos from ex-Jellyfish guitarist Jason Falkner and legendary rock chanteuse Robin Lane. Treat yourself to this remarkable and entertaining rock album.
