Description

War Zone on CD

Cameron Outlaw has studied the drum for as long as he can remember; having won four different scholarships, playing on a cruise ship, and making his professional debut at the HR-57 in D.C. at the age of 16. His quest for the internal search at all cost has taken him on roads that most would not travel. It's called purity! There are several musicians who have influenced Cameron's style of play. To name a few would be: The great Tony Williams, Jack Dejohnette, Terreon Gully, Billy Cobham, Brian Blade, Art Blakely, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dave Holland, John McLaughlin, Wayne Shorter, Chic Corea, Kenny Garrett, Geoffrey Keezer, Robert Glasper, Keith Jarret, Antonio Sanchez, Herbie Hancock and Terri Lyne Carrington only to list a few. As Cameron prepared to do this, he wanted to pay tribute to his father, who participated in the War Zone, as a contractor that worked on helicopters in 1991. Cameron and his brother derived to this concept, by trying to image themselves in the shoes of people in the War Zone. They connected the music to the drone of the helicopter, the machine gun effect of the drum, and tried to keep the intensity alive". They did have a sit-in drummer see if you can figure out which tunes! Tribute to our troops--hold on for the ride if you can handle it!
