Django Chanta on CD

The CD, entitled 'Chanté Django' is the best for last. This one features five Django tunes with vocal renditions rediscovered from the Forties in French. The liner notes describe the investigations involved in unearthing these 'Lost Choruses'. This is a must for my fellow 'Django Maniacs', even if you must unearth a French speaking friend to interpret the lyrics. I loved 'Swing 42'with words, to say nothing of 'Tears' and 'Nuages''. Acoustic hand tailored swinging authentic Django with vocals, what fun! Remember that Reinhardt and the Hot Club were sought after in the Thirties to accompany vocalists of widely differing quality, including chanter Jean Sablon. Refer to 'Lilly Belle May June''Nagasakie', 'Shine' and others in your Django collections. The music was meant for the people and meant to be sung. Orkest Polytour gives us a nice piece of that, and at that do it very nicely. This is an entertaining fun filled group with a penchant for this music and the talent to make it convincing. You'll surely agree when you hear the guitar and violin work [Tim Kliphuis] on the Sheik of Araby' cut on this CD. The fun starts with the cover photo and continues through the French lyrics to Sheik'. We don't have enough fun these days. Orkest Polytour will crank the hands of time back a bit to a period of swinging fun filled music. Take the tour with them. Frank Forte. JUST JAZZ GUITAR USA.
