Description

Off Ensemble on CD

OFF ENSEMBLE Off Ensemble (3Lune Records - 2001) Off Ensemble was formed by Marco Testoni and Marco De Angelis in 1998, in collaboration with various artists and jazz musicians such as : Mike Applebaum (Gil Evans, Natalie Cole, Zucchero), Alex Gwis (Ben Sidran, Enrico Rava, Aires Tango), Guido Benigni (Lucilla Galeazzi group). The music is basically a mix of Nu Jazz, World Music and traditional Mediterranean music combined with Ambient and Drum 'n' Bass. These different influences are brought together by amalgamating electronic and instrumental music. The result, enriched by lyrics drawn from poetry or inspired by the visual arts, is a compelling and unusual sound: a wide-ranging union of musical styles and artistic experience. Marco Testoni (keyboards, percussions), Marco De Angelis (guitars), Alessandro Gwis (piano), Mike Applebaum (trumpet, flugehorn), Guido Benigni (vocal, mandolin), Mario Corsini (oboe), Anna Crudo (backing vocal). All music composed and arranged by Marco Testoni & Marco De Angelis. PRESS RELEASE "Off Ensemble is an exercise in fusion; within six tracks these two musicians (Marco Testoni on percussion and keyboards, Marco De Angelis on guitar, keys and mixing board) manage to fuse jazz with elements from Mediterranean and world music traditions, and still have room to lay down some traditional vocal tracks and even drum 'n' bass percussion loops into the mix..."
