This CD project is the direct result of a Church fellowship between the Deans Chapel Baptist Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Providence Baptist Church of Monrovia, Liberia. Dr. Wilbur G. Thomas, a Baptist lay member, since childhood was on official assignment as Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission to postwar Liberia and was accepted as a guest member of the Providence Baptist Church during his 30 months in country. He served on the Church's strategic planning committee and vigorously promoted several activities in the Church including the music ministry. Dr. Thomas met Ms. Nyenatee Appleton, Minister of Music and Praise Team Leader, in the Church and was very impressed with her ability to uplift worshippers with her strong and sincere delivery of gospel songs of which many were the same versions offered in Afro-American Baptist Churches around the U.S. thus the title of the CD project, 'Songs of Faith and Deliverance of our Fathers and Mothers on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean'. Dr. Thomas believed that Ms. Appleton's unique delivery and her spirtuality would be key producing this CD as an input towards reviving existing Church partnerships as well as establishing new partnerships with the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Education Convention (LBMEC). Dr. Thomas extended an invitation to Ms. Appleton and Reverend Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church to visit Deans Chapel Baptist in June/July 2007. This CD project is a direct result of fellowship and music collaboration between Ms. Appleton and Ms. Norma Mayfield, Pianist, for Deans Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Since the late 1800's, the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Education Convention (LBMEC) has partnered with the National Baptist Convention. However, during the 14 year civil war in Liberia, the partnership waned with loss of active support for two secondary mission training schools. We hope that this CD project will serve as one of many catalysts towards reviving parterships with the LBMEC and American Baptist Churches.
