Nomi is part of a movement of artists in NYC that are changing the landscape of contemporary music. Known for a distinct style of vocals you might hear over hip hop production, paired with a live band or oftentimes, nothing more than a single guitar. Born & raised in Sunset Park, Brooklyn NY, this 24 year old of Puerto Rican decent is fighting her way through the stereo typical labels of being an R&B artist. Her deep velvety vocals are often compared to Sade & Mary J Blige with a hint of Jeff Buckley & Michael Jackson. Her music refuses genres and dabbles in various scenes from hip hop, to R&B, Soul to Folk and has seemed to land in what is being referred to as 'Music meets Art'. She's just returned from touring Europe with Antony & The Johnson's as one of 13 NYC Beauties in the 'Turning' Tour. A tour that proved New York's performing art scene is as vital now as at any time during Warhol's Factory period. It was originally presented at St. Ann's Warehouse for the 2004 Whitney Biennial. She has toured Europe & the US with CocoRosie, opening for them to a sold out crowd at The Bowery Ballroom and at The Vox Populi art gallery in Philly. This year she's collaborated with the King of The Underground NonPhixion's Ill Bill, performed at costume designer/stylist Patricia Field's residence for fashion week, appeared on NPR's Spinning On Air with David Garland and is putting on a show at Rockwood Music Hall which is being filmed for the German TV Series 'Arte'. She has also curated her own shows at both Joe's Pub & Tonic. She is now working on her Sophmore album titled 'Borough Gypsy'. The album includes a tribute to the late Jean Michel Basquiat.
