Description

Moody on CD

Black Arts Movement (BAM) Poetic Society describes the poetry project, Moody, as "a deeply repetitive metaphoric kiss...sensitive, sexy but oh so, so serious." Nikki Skies is the poetic voice resonating on the DVD accompaniment to hip hop's highly anticipated posthumous CD from soul/hip hop producer J Dilla. The poem entitled, "Another Star, Shining" has been described as, "full of artistic intensity" and "the remembrance of the missing element to hip hop - poetry." Nikki uses her art as a medium of instruction as well as a purveyor to destroy illusions, demolish myths, and celebrate lessons from everyday struggle. Her words transcend across barriers of color lines, religion, and politics earning her the privilege of performing in a vast array of events and venues. Nikki learned the power of the word somewhere in childhood and now shares her passion as an experienced facilitator conducting cultural tolerance, poetry writing and literacy workshops at various elementary, high school, and college campuses. Nikki consciously mirrors the scribe work performed by resident djali's in West Africa by documenting community stories through her signature blend of folklore and colloquist language. Her mission is to develop a honest body of literature to survive her and be studied in the tomorrow by continuing to voice the unpopular opinion and refocusing revolution back to the origin of love.
