Wakeful Dreamer on CD

Wakeful Dreamer is a collection of 12 songs that explore the many sides of dreaming, from the concious vision of Lord Tennyson's Wakeful Dreamer to the wistful longing of Duke Ellington's Daydream. The album opens with Nancy's own Dream of the Magi and then proceeds to weave together a tapestry of songs intended to invoke reflection and invite the listener to muse. 'My original intent was to create music that would promote thoughtful reflection and encourage the listener to look within to one's own inner dreams, imaginings and musings.' 'I want this music to provide time out from the daily pressures that keep us focused on the mundane world, and allow an opportunity to reconnect with one's inner world.' 'The musicians who gathered around me were all excellent jazz players, and so the songs I brought to the album became wrapped in gentle and varied movements and moods which clothed my own voice in a sea of changing color and form.' On this album, songs by the Swedish composer Thomas Wiehe are translated and adapted by Nancy Lehwalder, then mixed with unique melodies by Duke Ellington and infused with creative arrangements by bassist Clas Engwall. To this, Nancy adds her own blues, a setting of the evocative poem 'Wakeful Dreamer' by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and her own gentle yet penetrating voice, creating an atmosphere of rest within movement.
