Gathering My Name on CD

Review of Gathering My Name by Net magazine Some might ask the question why music has to be anything; smart, pop, indie, alternative, etc. I think that it simply helps one to grasp what the artist is attempting to convey. Trapped in language, the linguist tells us. Which leads me to a record that makes me so damn happy to be trapped in language, I'm still smarting. This is the first full-scale independent release from songwriter Mila Drumke. Entering into her world is a journey of extreme and extraordinary proportion. In the length of seven songs she has managed to capture just about every emotional moment in a person's life. From loss of trust to neo-Freudian separation anxiety one should be prepared to die and be resuscitated about 60 times in the span of about a half an hour. What is strange about dying and coming back to life is that once you are past the point of fear, you enter a stage of bliss that Mila Drumke helps facilitate. Not only is she able to facilitate this bliss, she also helps you explore these moments of intensity with a clarity I have not heard in years. If you don't like provocative music, pass this one by. Of course, if that's the case, you're probably responsible for the state of American radio and pop music and in general should, on all accounts, be strung up by your toenails. Mila Drumke might make you hang by your toenails, but for intelligent and beautifully articulated reasons. Bravo! By Lincoln Ellis.
