Waiting to Breathe on CD

Fans of the acerbic lyrical frankness exhibited by such artists as Fiona Apple may have found themselves a new obsession. Waiting to Breathe, the debut EP by Mia Zepeda, showcases an enchanting range of styles and subjects, seamlessly transitioning between wistful melodies and wickedly candid lyrics with artful grace. Nomad extraordinaire, Mia Zepeda is originally from nowhere in particular. Born in the Dominican Republic to Peace Corps volunteer parents (a wildlife biologist and a forester), Mia grew up moving from state to state to not-quite-a-state and back again, including parts of California, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana, Arizona and New Mexico. Mia began her musical journey at age 5, picking out songs by ear on the piano, and taking more formal lessons from her mother as part of her home school curriculum. She started writing poetry around the same time, but never thought to put the two together until much later, when she left her high school town in Oregon for a collegiate adventure in Florida. While attending Florida State University Mia met and quickly befriended singer/songwriter Tori Sparks, who taught her to play guitar, and soon afterwards the music and poetry finally came together. To learn more about the music industry, Mia interned at Lifeline Audio & Entertainment her last semester, and ultimately recorded two of the tracks for "Waiting to Breathe" there ("Amateurs" and "Forever"). After graduation, Mia moved to Austin, Texas in search of the traditional day job. While living in Austin she spent most of her time writing, rewriting and perfecting her songs. In the spring of 2007, she traveled to Nashville to record again, this time at Prime Cut Studio, to finally finish putting together the tracks for "Waiting to Breathe". Shortly after the release of 'Waiting to Breathe', Mia suffered from a serious case of restlessness, prompting her to pack her bags and move to South Korea. These days she can be seen performing at various gigs around the Seoul area.
