Slowly Rollin on CD

I decided to use reviews rather than my own words to describe the CD 'Slowly Rollin''. I've been playing professionally for 30 years including 10 years with a very popular Celtic based quartet called 'The Greencastle Band' from the 70's to mid 80's. After taking 5+ years out of the business for family obligations, I started playing with fellow multi-instrumentalist Mike Fischman as the 'Folk Support Group'. We recorded this CD in 1997. I'm currently working on a solo project and one of the songs 'White Shirts/Hungry Children' is the opening song for a compilation CD 'The Time Is Now' produced by the 1 Of 52 Artist Hunger Network. Proceeds will be donated to various food banks and soup kitchens. 'Jesus Doesn't Kleck No Tax, Wassail' - I have loved this tune from the get-go when I first heard it live ... awesome covers of Robert Johnson's 'Walkin' Blues' and the New Lost City Ramblers' 'Model 'A' Ford ... I was particularly touched by 'The Fields Are Alive', a tune concerned with not only the loss of our fields and our seas but with the hands that tended and harvested them ... Mary Ann Rossoni -- Northeast Performer ... stylish bottleneck licks on the harmonica-fueled tribute to Robert Johnson ... 'Land Of Plenty' is picked acoustic guitar over Dr. John lyric delivery, a homelessness portraiture which envelops ... The woodwind of 'Lonely Fisherman' haunts ... The bounce and vigor is matched by instrumental ability ... Michael Caito -- The Providence Phoenix I label this enjoyable outing comfort music ... McGuirl and Fischman are jacks of all trades when it comes to musicianship and the playing on 'Slowly Rollin'' is right on ... McGuirl's lead vocals displaying a warm and salty rasp that falls loosely between Bill Morrisey and early Dave Van Ronk ... Dan Ferguson -- Narragansett Times & WRIU 90.3 DJ (RI)
