The award winning Mary Lind Choir celebrates the joys of sober living. Performing on the steps of the State Capital in Sacramento, they raise their voices, hearts and hands in another rousing, soul stirring performance. The Choir is comprised of residents and alumni of Mary Lind Recovery Centers' residential substance abuse treatment, adult education, and vocational guidance programs. The members are living examples that the twelve-step process really works and that people can overcome their dependence on drugs and alcohol and move on to lead productive, happy lives. The power of their music is greatly enhanced by the reality that the performers are virtually all recovered addicts, alcoholics, and former homeless people. The Choir performs at numerous civic and state events such as the McDonald's Gospelfest at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium (ten appearances, four as finalists), 'Recovery Happens' at the State Capitol, the Gospel Jubilee at the Ford Theatre, and the Los Angeles Marathon. It recently performed at a fund-raising event sponsored by Phi Kappa Psi for Mary Lind at USC's Town & Gown Center. Ms. Trish Turner is the Choir Director, and beloved heart and soul of the group. Her credits include nightclub performances with Pearl Bailey and a three year engagement as Duke Ellington's featured vocalist traveling worldwide with the jazz legend's orchestra. Trish has also performed with such greats as David Cassidy, Steely Dan, Pointer Sisters, Fifth Dimension, Andy Williams, Sly Stone, and many others. Trish Turner and the Mary Lind Choir are high energy performers who not only entertain to the max, but energize your soul. Sgt. Eddie Siguenza, who was assigned to photograph the 2007 Los Angeles Marathon for the California National Guard, sent an e-mail to the Choir relaying his impression of their performance at that event. Sgt. Siguenza wrote, "I am SO GLAD to have been at the right place, at the right time, to witness your energy. In one word: Wow.. ... Great voices, excellent tones, and overall just an overwhelming feel-good atmosphere. ...At the finish line, a few runners echoed the same. They talked about "that band three miles into the race." I deploy next month to Iraq, leaving a beautiful family behind temporarily. I hope I remember your energy during the darkest days over there. But I will never forget this LA Marathon, the one with the Mary Lind brothers and sisters, whose music stretched all 26.2 miles."
