West on CD

Maple Street is husband and wife Jan & Greg Thompson. This musical duo formed in 1997 after moving from their home in the UK to Detroit, Michigan where they were inspired by the acoustic folk and Americana styles of the USA. 'West', their debut CD, incorporates Greg's fast paced strumming, subtle jazz comping and finger picking styles on guitar and simple yet beautiful piano on a number of songs. Jan provides the melodic strength of the music and writes lyrics that are heartfelt and created from life experiences and spiritual growth. Her voice encompasses rich low tones and high bold highlights. She has been likened by some to Karen Carpenter, Sarah McLaughlin and Jewel. Their musical education has spanned many years including Greg's classes at Guitar Institute in London and The National Guitar Workshop here in the US. Jan has studied under various voice instructors and has attended many seminars and music classes. She is currently an undergraduate music major at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Many fans have complimented the couple on their positive messages and unique sound. Below are some comments from listeners: 'No matter your mood, you will feel good after hearing this. It's a must have.' 'Jan's singing has a striking clarity of delivery and sincere expression.' 'Greg's compositional style and arrangement of guitar and piano carry refreshing simplicity.' 'Jan could be considered a modern day Karen Carpenter.'
