Vodou Child on CD

Mysticdiva records prince postoffice . box 3 . New York city, NY . 10012 . 212-696-6476 ___ MANDA STRETCH: THE MUSE IN YOUR MUSIC After being featured in the December 2000 showcase of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, New England native turned New York singer-songwriter Manda Stretch is on a roll. Her self-produced debut CD, 'Vodou Child,' has just been released by mysticdiva records, and her schedule is booked, with performances coming up all over New York City. Manda, a 1992 Emerson graduate, calls her unique sound 'jazzy, blue, trans-gospel funk,' and if that sounds eclectic, that's the point. 'I like to pull each song's sound from a different source,' she says. 'I might be going for a Police vibe in one song, and the next might be more of an Al Green/Aretha Franklin tune, or I'll throw in some Erykah Badu sass.' Greg McCauley of River Music Group raves, 'Seeing Manda perform is like going to church!' Indeed, Manda's gospel influences show in her soaring vocal range, her passion, and her ability to move her audience - often to their feet. Mixing that with alternative and pop sounds, Manda has created something vibrant, spiritual and sexy with her music. Her lyrics are strikingly intimate. 'Every song I write comes from a specific personal experience, 'Manda says. 'That's how I like to reach people, one-on-one.' Her songs get right to the point, celebrating life and love, and the joys of being a woman - no matter your shape or size. Manda's own sly sense of humor also often shows in her lyrics, as when she refers to herself as a 'fully figured out woman' in her theme song 'Frog Prince.' But just as important is her message of nonconformity, of taking risks without being bound by society. 'My personal philosophy is, if it's out of reach...stretch,' she says. # # #.
