Whether escapading as Uncle Eye (The Willy Wonka of childrenââ?-â?¢s music), inciting riots of elation from California to Scotland, or time traveling with the Bugs Bunny surrealistic rock band Comfy Chair, Ira finds a way to bring an uplifting song intoââ?-¦ohââ?-¦nine out of ten realities. His music can be found on six recordings, including Elektra Recordââ?-â?¢s compilation Jump up and Boogie. Practically born on the stage in Miami, Florida, he studied theater and music at F.S.U. While on his way to L.A. to become a comic actor, he decided to stay in Colorado to concentrate on writing music while studying at the Naropa Institute. When he did come to California he opted for Berkeley, where he has had free reign to expand organically. He has also had an opportunity to study saxophone and flute with Saffron Obois and vocals with the late great Judy Davis. A big fan of Fats Waller, The Gershwin Brothers, The Beatles, and Jethro Tull, Ira seeks to infuse a classic sense of melody into his songs. So far, he has composed material for two CDs with Comfy Chair, his original play,The Plantââ?-â?¢s Taking Over, Elie Wieselââ?-â?¢s Trial of God, (performed at the Rhinoceros Theater in SF), and his first childrenââ?-â?¢s CD Hippo on my Head (which he recently showcased in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), A music video for Velvet Mustache, filmed in NYC, a video for the Uncle Eye Show (a TV pilot), The Sultan of Time, his first solo CD for the grown-ups (not the grown-olds), which he calls Soulfolk.* The Sultanââ?-â?¢s leading track, Part of the Divine was awarded Honorable Mention for Song of the Year Contest by The Northern California Songwriterââ?-â?¢s Association. With his latest effort, Madlik Oti, Ira reveals more of his spiritual and whimsical nature through the vehicle of Jewish Soulfolk.* *Soulfolk is music for your atoms to dance to. It too is music for children. We are all children.
