Louis Dixson has been compared to some of the saxophone greats ..... Clarence Clemens, David Sanborne & Maceo Parker. He has shared the stage with Doc Holiday of the Dizzy Gillespie Band and the Derrick Trucks Band. Most important mentor in life is Jesse Scales, who at a young age took Louis under his wing and provided his first saxophone and a wealth of inspiration. Louis grew up in Niagara Falls, NY and started playing the sax in the school band at 12 years of age. When he was 16 he formed his first R&B, soul, and jazz band, Hydro Funk. Louis was offered several scholarships upon high school graduation, but needed to help support his family so he enlisted in the Armed Forces. 'The Plan' was to go in for 4 years and help his family but four years turned into 10 years which included several tours in the Persian Gulf. He is out now and ready to make a major impact!! His instruments of choice are the alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones. Recordings include Mickey D. Water City Band, in Niagara Falls NY, River Livingston Band, and Lafayette Smith Solar Wind album in Charleston SC. Bands performed with include, FunHole, Blue Dogs, Acoustic Function, Frogmores, Live Oak, and many other local bands. Venues performed in are many in the Charleston area but the Music Farm is most notorious in the SouthEast where national artist perform. Other performance highlights include: From Darkness to Light; a non profit agency for sexually abused children, performed the National Anthem for professional boxing matches in Charleston, SC at the Plex, and air time on 101.7 which is the Citadel Communication Network.
