World Apart on CD

With a voice that's described as soulful, strong & sweet... Lorraine is a singer with her feet firmly planted in a lifetime of singing soul, blues and jazz with a unique style all her own. At the age of 15, Lorraine began singing rock and soul in nightclubs & festivals, and has continued with a lifelong passion and dedication to the world of singing, entertaining and now mentoring as well. Thru the years she's shared stages and opened for headline acts such as Mavis Staples, Sista Monica Pointer Sisters, the Charlie Hunter Band, Pete Escavedo and John Hammond. In addition to being a singer/songwriter, performer, and session singer, she has released two jazz influenced albums, 'A World Apart' and 'Diva's Diversion'. Her latest album 'A Light In Winter - Songs of Christmas Past' was recorded with Tony Unger and lots of talented great friends. She and Tony collaborated on arranging new and sometimes surprising takes on traditional holiday carols dating from the 9th on up to the 19th century. Lorraine also runs a small production company, Lorraine Gervais Productions, that showcase regional artists and vocalists in the Sierra Foothills of northern California. All of her vintage style tribute shows have highlighted great singers and composers both past and present, and in every kind of genre - from jazz to country to R&B and soul to rock. In addition to performing in her own regular bands, putting on great shows and mentoring young vocalists, Lorraine also serves as the Program Coordinator for a Community Music Mentoring Project in partnership with the Grass valley Center for the Arts. A recipient of an Irvine Foundation grant, the program offers music participation to the underserved in her community. Based out of Nevada City and nearby Grass Valley, the area has been a cultural center for the performing arts of all kinds (about 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco), and venues draw audiences from all over Northern California.
