Fine & Mellow on CD

FINE AND MELLOW - CD RELEASE FOR JAZZ SINGER LIZZIE SCOTT & 80 YEAR OLD SAXOPHONIST LEGEND LEW HOOPER. When jazz drummer Dennis Smith discovered that Lew Hooper had never released a CD, despite playing the UK scene for over 60 years, he set about to remedy the situation. They decided that their favourite singer Lizzie Scott would compliment Lew's sax style perfectly. Two of London's finest jazz musicians; pianist John China and bassist Murray Salmon, joined them to record 13 classic jazz tracks at the famous Tin Pan Alley Studios on Denmark Street. This recording was captured in one session; the empathy between Lizzie & Lew was natural and immediate on the first take! The result is 'Fine and Mellow' - reminiscent of Billie Holiday & Lester Young, these fine musicians have brought alive the music of the great jazz era. "Lizzie Scott has the kind of style jazz musicians love - direct and nicely phrased, with no showy tricks. Lizzie shares the limelight with Lew Hooper, unsung hero of British jazz. This whole CD was made in one session - by one good singer and four good musicians working together... exactly the right ingredients for a perfect session." - Dave Gelly, MBE, jazz critic of The Observer LIZZIE'S BIOGRAPHY Lizzie was born in Australia & was introduced to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday & Louis Armstrong while watching her Father restore vintage cars in his back-yard garage. She's spent her entire life performing, beginning singing & dancing at age 3. She studied opera at Adelaide Conservatorium of Music & performing arts at The Drama Centre at Flinders University gaining a first class B.A. with Honours. In a move to Sydney, Lizzie was offered a role in Cameron Mackintosh's stage production of Elvis the Musical & subsequently sang with Sydney's top jazz & swing bands, including a 3 year residency at the famous Marble Bar in the Hilton Hotel and touring to Christmas Island. Quickly after moving to London in 2000, Lizzie became one of the most sought after jazz/swing singers; touring the UK & Europe with the most outstanding bands; the Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, big band Jivin' Miss Daisy, The Do-Rites & the Boisdales Blue Rhythm Band and as guest vocalist with many acts including the Cotton Club Orchestra & the Pasadena Roof Orchestra at jazz festivals in Switzerland & Germany.
