Joyful on CD

Biographical Data - Linda Sherman Music is my ministry. Ever since I can remember, I have memorized songs heard on the radio, in elevators, offices, or anywhere a lovely piece of music was playing. Often, it uplifted my spirits, so I wanted to share with others the gift of playing piano and singing. My mother was a soloist for our church choir and for weddings and funerals, so I accompanied her on the piano during practice sessions at home. You could say that my musical ability might have been inherited but, regardless of the origin, I am grateful to have this wonderful, healthy emotional outlet. Having been classically trained for several years as a child, I later became more dependent upon "playing by ear," which has resulted in many and varied musical jobs and has created a higher level of enjoyment. Relying upon my ear brings out natural talent and allows me to improvise and experiment. It also increases opportunities to perform in many venues. Examples of my musical experience include support for little theatre, organist for an all-girl band, vocalist for a big-band orchestra, piano bar club work, entertaining for private parties and civic organizations, churches and nursing homes, pianist for an international Bible class, cafeteria dinner music, and dinner music for a retirement facility. I also belong to a band of professional musicians who "name that tune," and we all play it. We perform primarily for church groups and retirement villages. Sometimes we have as many as nine instruments and four vocalists, and it is a fun way to spend some time. The tunes for the Joyful album were selected either to have an upbeat tempo or inspiring words, and to create a mood in the listener of quiet contentment. It's intent is to inspire a happy frame of mind and to bless those who hear it.
