Description

Askew on CD

This recording is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, the piano man, Dick Baker, who opened the door to the wonders of a life in music. He was my first music teacher, patient and encouraging, assuring me that by playing an instrument I'd be invited to all the parties. This dedication extends to the many fine musicians & music enthusiasts no longer with us who freely shared knowledge and experience with me. Especially to my master teacher, friend and mentor Red Callender. (Come back to this page for more details later) Special thanks to the bandmembers---it wouldn't have happened without you! Our music is accessible Jazz....you can access you copy here at cdbabay.com see ya at the parties!! Leslie Baker A talented acoustic bassist who has long been a fixture in the Los Angeles area, Leslie Baker began studying music and when she was six. Her first professional job was when she was 12 and she considers her most important teacher and main mentor to have been Red Callender. Baker has played with a wide variety of jazz and blues artists including the L.A. Jazz Society All-Stars, Barbara Morrison, Floyd Dixon (she has recorded with the latter three), Willie Dixon, Bill Doggett, Earl Palmer, Gerald Wiggins, Buddy Collette, Oscar Brown Jr., the Cheathams, Ray Pizzi, Bill Henderson and many others. In 1998 Leslie Baker released her debut recording as a leader, Askew for her Ranch Cabin label. Scott Yanow, Jazz Reviewer & Author.
