Koncrete K on CD

Koncrete K is an alternative/hip hop band from Baltimore MD, best known for their eclectic sound and their ambitious, high impact live performances. They are a three piece band that fuses live instrumentation with hip hop production, and have been compared to many other acts such as The Beastie Boys and Kottonmouth Kings. With influences ranging from old school and underground hip hop to dance music to arena rock and metal, Koncrete K's music does it's best to defy definition while feeling as familiar to you as your favorite pair of socks. Koncrete K first formed in 2001 as a collaborative project between an un-named rock trio, and The Ill Elements hip hop group. Guitarist Chuck LaMar was looking for a vocalist for his hard rock band and was having little success finding someone who fit. He found the answer to his dilemma in DJ Roc E Wrek, a co-worker at a local used car dealership. Roc E was looking for an alternative to the watered down hip hop being produced by his peers and brought his crew, The Ill Ellements, to jam with Chuck's band. The two groups hit it off immediately, the void of vocalist had not only been filled, but now there were 2 MCs and a DJ on turntables as well. It wasn't long before this new group, now Koncrete K, was pouring all of their creative juices into one pot. 'Hazard Kounty', Koncrete K's debut album was released in early spring of 2003, and was an instant local success, selling over 1000 copies in under 6 months. The full length album was recorded in one ten hour session at Sheffield Studios in Phoenix MD, and is a raucous bunch of party songs with a few personal tracks peppered in as well. With an album to promote, the band hit the local clubs hard and began refining their live performance. The group also added another DJ for live shows, long time friend and Ill Elements member DJ EFX. After over two years of playing out regularly, gaining fan support at every stop and selling loads of merchandise in the process, Koncrete K decided to take a break and work on new material. While working on material for the follow up to 'Hazard Kounty', Koncrete K found a draw back to such a collaborative formula, as personal issues made the song writing process a slow one. Eventually, these issues would leave Roc E Wrek as the only vocalist, and Chuck as the only guitarist, not to mention they were without a drummer. Choosing to continue on, Roc E, Chuck, and now permanent member DJ EFX began their extensive search for a percussive foundation for the next incarnation of Koncrete K. After trying out 15 drummers, the band decided to return to the hip hop roots of The Ill Elements. Koncrete K returned to the studio with determination in late 2005, infusing the hard rock guitar riffs of Chuck LaMar with the hip hop style production of Roc E Wrek and the scratchtacular turntablism of DJ EFX. The new album, simply entitled 'Koncrete K', was a labor of love, and was the result of many months of truly colaborative jam sessions and improvisational production. The band allowed themselves the freedom to experiment, and produced a far more personal experience for the listener. 'Koncrete K' was recorded at Elevate Recording Studios in Edgewood MD by Andy Valerie and was mixed by Jake Mossman at Sheffield Studios. 'Koncrete K', has been well received by K's loyal fan base as well as listeners new to the group, and local venues have also experienced the new stage show including videos and a light show. What's next you ask? Koncrete K is currently planning to expand their audience through a national tour, so keep your eyes and ears peeled, they could be in your town soon.
