Sweethearts Project on CD

The Sweethearts Project on Redhot Records is a celebration of the music of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm. 'This recording indeed is both a musical and historical event...Whoever gets to hear this recording will find it hard not to get up and dance to it.' - Nat Hentoff The all women Kit McClure Band pays tribute to an esteemed predecessor, the International Sweethearts of Rhythm: featuring swinging jazz and big band, letting loose with a go-for-broke delivery. The International Sweethearts of Rhythm started as the school band of the Piney Woods Country Life School near Jackson, Mississippi in 1937. Playing in the band earned these poor and orphaned girls their school board and tuition. They soon became a popular touring band at venues like the Apollo Theater in New York City, and began attracting professional women jazz instrumentalists. The Sweethearts ranked high among the most popular big bands of the 1940s. 'I am delighted that the music of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm is being played by Kit McClure and her fine band. Kit McClure must be congratulated on showcasing the swinging jazz of this great all girl orchestra.' -Marion McPartland 'A joyous musical occasion! An all-women big band of today pays tribute to an esteemed predecessor in the best of all possible ways: outstanding contemporary musicianship, adaptation to the sensibilities of a band of another era, and letting loose with a go-for-broke delivery.' -Sherrie Tucker 'Delighted to hear the new generation of International Sweethearts. They really swing.' -Rosetta Reitz.
