Long Road Home on CD

Kathy Graves is no stranger to the guitar. She began playing when she was 10 years old after being influenced by The Beatles. "I saw The Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show and I was hooked! I knew I had to play the guitar." After high school, Kathy went on to major in music, where her major instrument was the classical guitar and her minor instrument was voice. She has made a career in music, not only playing and singing, but as an elementary music teacher. "I've got the best job on the planet; I go to school every day and hang out with a great bunch of kids. I sing, play my guitar, and they even pay me for all this fun!" "I grew up in a house of music. My parent's had a love of music, which they passed on to me." The words from Kathy's song, The Gift (An Irish Tale) says it all; "I have music in my heart, music in my soul. My music comes from deep inside of me." Kathy's influences over the years have been James Taylor, Chet Atkins, Van Morrison, and of course the island sounds of Jimmy Buffett. Kathy is an avid sailor and draws from her experiences while on her boat the Molly Malone. "I love the sound of the wind coming thru the sails and the water hitting the sides of the boat. It's the quiet time I need to help me write." Her Irish heritage has woven it's way into her own writing. "I'm a good listener. I listen to everything and then draw upon what I've heard when I write. My music is like a melting pot." Kathy's CD, The Long Road Home, is a good example of how comfortable she is sliding in and out of different styles. She has created a new genre with her music called Celtic-bean, where her Irish roots meet the soft breezes of the island sounds.
