Solitary Heart on CD

Kathy Fry has been singing ever since she can remember. Her earliest recollections are of singing along with Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul and Mary records playing on the family phonograph. At 16, she bought her first guitar at a garage sale. She taught herself to play, and at 18 began performing with a country band in local clubs. She worked with several cover bands until 'rediscovering' folk music, hearing it played on WFMT in Chicago and Wisconsin public radio's 'Simply Folk'. Just after marrying her high school sweetheart, Kathy joined a four piece folk group called 'City Limits' that performed in clubs around the Chicago area. She sang lead and played bass in the group until taking a hiatus for the birth of her first child. Kathy worked with several suburban Chicago studios and continued to play and sing while raising her children. In 2000, when they had reached an age of independence, Kathy decided it was time again to pursue her first love: music. She auditioned for a local production of the musical 'Godspell' and appeared that summer as 'Joanne'. The following two summers saw Kathy playing the 'Fairy Godmother' in 'Cinderella' and 'Fruma Sarah' in 'Fiddler On The Roof'. Kathy began writing music in the early 1980's. In May of 2001, she traveled to Kingtson, Ontario to meet with a songwriter who was looking for someone to record demos of his songs. Upon her return home to Wisconsin, Kathy began writing songs for her first independently produced CD, 'Solitary Heart', due to be released in late 2002. 'Solitary Heart' is an eclectic collection of 'new folk' music, featuring ten original songs ranging from the calypso-flavored 'I Wanna Fly Away' to the deeply personal and introspective 'Walking In The Rain'. The CD also includes her own arrangements of the standard 'Here's That Rainy Day' and the traditional hymn 'How Can I Keep From Singing?'. She appears regularly at local clubs and events and will be touring to promote the CD release in early 2003.
