Rough Draft on CD

Singer-songwriter and Massachusetts native Karl Sharicz introduces his debut CD Rough Draft, as the name implies, out of early and rough attempts at songwriting and recording. All of the instruments on this disc, guitars; bass; drums; and vocals, were performed by Karl who is joined on track #6 by friend and former musical partner, Melissa Beth Klayton. Desperately Seeking Susan, Mining the Hurt, and Something I Can't Hide sound more like pure demos done in a single take, but the rest of the tracks are either polished home studio productions or live recordings all of which offer great sound quality. These songs were recorded on a small inexpensive digital 8-track by Karl himself except track #6 which was recorded live by Melville Park Studios at Boston's legendary Club Passim where the likes of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan performed during the 60s. Karl performs regularly within the Boston and surrounding metropolitan areas as a solo performer, featuring at various open stages; museums; and art exhibits. He also performs regularly with other local musical artists-on percussionist with Jeff Root & the Bongo Poets and on bass guitar with Gayle Picard, both of whom have CDs listed on this site. The songs on this disc were written and recorded over a ten-year period beginning around 1996. Much of the music remained hidden but Karl recently decided that it was time to share these somewhat crude attempts and struggles at becoming a singer-songwriter in the hope that he might inspire a few others along the way. The songs represent a variety of musical influences that others had on him from listening to so much groundbreaking music during the 60s. Karl is working on his second CD for release in 2007. In the meantime, please give this one singer-songwriter's legacy a listen and see if you might pick up on the subtle sounds and phrases that you might have heard from listening to those British invasion groups such as The Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Zombies or The Animals.
