Dreaming Kind on CD

Justin understood very early on how making the right choices would enable him to follow his dreams and achieve his goals. Born in Honolulu in 1978, Justin Kawika Young has spent most of his life on the island of Oahu. Raised by his mother, Jan Young, he had the opportunity to travel to Europe, spending time in Spain where his mother taught school. Their travels also took them to the West Coast for two years, returning to Hawaii when Justin was thirteen years of age. The Junior Achievement Program at Kalaheo led the way to his first recording contract. Award winning teacher, Barbara Volhein gave her senior economics class the assignment of conceptualizing and developing a product. Justin's group decided to take the assignment a step further when Bob St. John at Neos Productions offered to donate the use of his studio and recording expertise for the project. This led to Justin's first release, 'No Better Time Than Now,'. Two of his original tunes, 'Windward Side,' and 'Blink of an Eye,' hit the local charts. As a result he was invited to open for Big Mountain on Oahu and Maui during their 1996 summer tour. He also became Oceanic Cable's School Spirit and Personal Pride representative which provided him the opportunity to get involved in community service while receiving airplay on all cable channels for a period of 12 months. With the release of his second recording, 'Soothe You,' a combination of rhythm and blues and contemporary island tunes, he's enjoying the success of the reaction to his nineties rendition of Van Morrison's, 'Crazy Love.' Several weeks on the 'Top 5 at 5 - the five most requested songs in paradise,' secured Justin a spot on KCCN's Downtown Ho'olaule'a concert in September. Audience response was enthusiastic as the crowd sang 'Crazy Love' along with Justin. Teenage screams accompanied Justin throughout his R&B tune, 'Soothe You.' No doubt Justin's dreams now include young women! While Justin's release, 'Soothe You,' was still strong on the local charts Justin released his third recording. 'My Eyes Adore You' is filled with the sweet rhythm and blues, R&B reggae, and island reggae sound Justin's fans have come to expect. This new release climbed to the number one spot in the state within the first week of it's release and is holding in the top ten. With the success of his lastest releases, Justin's dreams now include expanding his creative talents to produce other artists. A serious, soft spoken individual, Justin would like to be recognized as one who has the ability to make others feel something through the music he creates.
