Christmas Together with June Simon The traditional sounds of Christmas always feature, that is for the most part, the jewel of all the manmade instruments - namely the human voice. Golden Bell House has the rare pleasure to feature such a voice, the discerning voice of the Canadian born artist June Simon. Her rich soprano voice carries a unique imbedded tone in it's range that differs from song to song. She delivers their meaning with a voice so unique and uplifting that it totally combines, enhances and verifies the skill of all those who perform with her, giving each artist a monumental place by enhancing the characteristic individuality of their contributions. It was at 10 years of age that June Simon began her training. After entering Trinity College of London, she performed on many occasions in Canada. Singing for the United States consulate, she met Mme. Savrides, an established Metropolitan Opera soprano who accepted her as her prime student. June was to leave for London to Covent Garden to begin her engagement in the world of opera when a cancer-like illness destroyed her career. After nine major operations, the high range of her voice faded, the many administered anesthetics simply destroying her voice, until now- much to the joy of her newly found fans! Recently, June was invited by the Hawaiian artist Winston Tan, to perform together with him on the CD 'Songs of Our Time'. She now returns the favor by inviting Winston to be on her own label. In this CD, Christmas Together, June also invited Pierre Grill with his magical piano styling, to join her. Her husband, songwriter, poet and novelist, finding the classical guitarist Winston Tan playing in a walk-through lounge, was astounded. It was inconceivable to the composer that such a talented artist was supplying only background music. Golden Bell thus invited Winston Tan onto their label. Winston's talent for arranging music for his eight string guitar was further enhanced with O.E. Simon's compositions. As Winston so fittingly exclaimed 'this is pure, honest music as it should be'. Thus Winston Tan has entertained his audiences including those of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and the Kahala Mandarin, with these compositions - apparently much to their delight. The internationally well known music network Beethoven.com also plays these new compositions even going so far as to read the lyrics to the piece Shalom to you my love which Winston played so beautifully and which now June has sung in 'Songs of Our Time'. The novel for which this piece was written has now been accepted by an international consortium of filmmakers to be released under the title Between Yesterday and Tomorrow. The sound tracks on Christmas Together return to traditional sounds, much more so appreciated when the voice of June Simon lifts the Ave Maria high up into the dome of any cathedral. Handel's work, his Largo, from his opera Xerxes, has the sound of intimate sanctity within it's measures. Here the reverberation of a coupled tone, distant but attached to the uniqueness of June Simon's voice, melts into the feelings of this tune with deep emotions and appreciation of the composer's efforts, making it one of the most beloved sounds of anyone who enjoys harmony within music. The unique quality of Winston's guitar brings true beauty to the season together with the magical piano of the French born pianist Pierre Grill, ending this beautiful CD quite appropriately with White Christmas.
