Joy Shannon is a multi-instrumentalist singer & songwriter who writes and performs primarily on Celtic harp, cello, and accordion. Her sound is completed with her backing band 'The Beauty Marks' on guitar, drums and bass. Joy's latest album 'As in the Wilderness' was recorded with producer Martin Carrillo (Now It's Overhead, Kari Newhouse)at Heardrum Studios and Brian Frederick at Halcion Studios. Of the new album Joy says, 'This album pushed me to new levels musically and personally. When I hear the album I almost get teary-eyed because Martin and Brian have helped me finally capture the sound I have searching for for years. This album is an intensely personal release of pain of my past. I was very concerned, though, about whether putting this album out into the world would be just putting out more pain. But I realized that the process of writing, recording and performing these songs allowed me to let got of that insane pain to become the happy person I always was. So, it is my sincerest hope that the album can inspire others to recognize and let go of their pain as well, to be the amazing people they are.' Here are a few reviews: 'Joy plays Celtic Harp and has some great and unique vocals which range from soft and sweet to powerful and moving. Sometimes bordering on the ethereal; at others punk/rock (YES - punk on the Celtic Harp!!!) A must listen to artist whose unique application of the Celtic Harp and hard-rocking band makes her truly one of a kind. A prolific and profound lyricist is another great quality which makes experiencing her music an utterly enjoyable yet an incomparable style and sound. Her recently released CD, 'As In The Wilderness' showcases her various musical qualities and attributes. Take a listen or two; if she doesn't grab you straight away, a second listen will lock you in!!!' Michael Cleveland, Irish Press US "Joy's voice is mesmerizing. This is the kind of album you want to listen to over and over again until it permiates your soul. The songs are written from a place few of us allow ourselves to go. The instrumentation is remarkable. All and all- a beautiful representation of music at it's best. I'm so thrilled to have happened upon Joy Shannon and the Beauty Marks and can't wait to hear more from them."
