Jonathan Bender writes musical compositions that explore merging musical styles that naturally don't go together, from renaissance choral music to hard rock and rap to minimalism. His album The Bitter and the Sweet comprises songs of the genre Classic Renaissance Pop Rock. Born September 6, 1977, Jonathan Steven Bender began performing musical theatre at the age of 8. Jonathan graduated from The Bullis High School in Potomac, Maryland in 1995, and went on to study music at Cornell University, earning a Bachelor of Arts with a Music Major in January 2000. Jonathan is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Jonathan sang with the Cornell University Glee Club for 6 semesters, traveled with them on 4 domestic tours, and recorded with them their album Echoes from the Walls. Jonathan has conducted several ensembles and musical theatre productions, including The Reston Community Player's 1776, by Sherman Edwards, which received excellent reviews by the Washington Post and the Reston Times, and for which Jonathan was nominated Best Music Director by the Washington Area Theatre Community Honors society. In January 2007, Jonathan served as the Tenor Section Lead for the Master Chorale of South Florida's performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Cleveland Orchestra in Miami, Florida's Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. Jonathan is currently working on his new album, titled This Night Will Never End which explores digital and analog electronic music combined with African rhythms and various dance rhythms, creating a metamorphic sonority to express social and political statements.
