Nuclear Hayride On a cold December night in 1984, Johnny J and the Hitmen (Johnny J, Dave Clements and Joey Torres) set to work on their first release, Nuclear Hayride. As the lights went on and the tape rolled, Producer Alex Chilton arrived from Memphis. The setting was Don Hull's Nightshade Studio in Mid City New Orleans. The sessions produced Johnny J's paean to blue-collar America " I Don't Want to Work No More", and the hard-hitting love-gone-wrong energy of "I Just Don't Care" (both selections -new takes on riff-driven rockabilly). Also included, the South Louisiana country-flavored "Don't Treat Me Like I Treated You" to which Mr. Chilton lent backing vocals and piano. Roughing up the sonic landscape and stepping outside the lines are "Big City Lights" and the title track. This record was later released on the Great Southern label. This is a unique take on the rockabilly genre and a must-have for any fan of the genre.
