Hey There on CD

John Miller recorded his first solo album, 'First Degree Blues', in 1971, at the age of 21. In the course of the '70s, he recorded four more solo albums for Blue Goose Records and Rounder Records, moving from the Country Blues he started out in and ending up with 'Biding My Time, John Miller Plays George Gershwin', in 1978. Then, silence. In February of 2004, John released 'Hey There', a collection of Jazz Standards, his first solo recording in 25 years. How did the recording come to be? John tells us, 'I was touring in Japan in 2001 with the great mandolinist, John Reischman, and I met a fan of my '70s recordings, Kazi Goda. We visited and talked for a while, and Kazi asked me why I had quit doing solo recordings. I didn't have any very good answer, and he told me, 'You have to make a new solo CD!' something about the certainty with which he said that made me feel like, 'You know, he's right.' I made the CD and I think it's the best work I've ever done. I hope you enjoy it.'
