Search Me on CD

John Hurlbut has come along in his journey with music. Though musically trained in the early days with the Texas Boys Choir, and more recently with the Univ. Of North Texas' college of Music, the means of art and self expression in music were not fully realized. Though arduous the journey of the singer/songwriter, confidence has budded into a real, simple, and honest expression of life lived in a heavenward gaze. Now coupled with potent messages of love, honesty, and true soul searching, John seamlessly laces lyrics together to reflect the human condition on a journey of grace. In his recent EP release entitled 'Search Me', John eases into smooth melodies with a genuinely unique sound built upon life pain, and quiet time before God. Beautifully distinctive, the vocal simplicity in 'Search Me' leaves room for an introspective glance at the heart. 'Solitary Night', with it's very catchy hook, provides a pop groove and vocal precision in communicating John's engagement with his wife. Finally, 'Unwind' delivers a compelling message mixed with emotion settled by powerful lead vocals and accompaniment. Melodically, John pulls inspiration from a variety of genres including classical, pop/rock, contemp. Christian, and traditional/modern worship. Constantly writing and working on new song ideas, John weaves together stories that engage modernity by confronting the emotions that all are faced with in life. Stylistically, both in writing and arranging, John's message is grace to a fallen world found only in Jesus Christ.
