Well on CD

Ever since he can remember, John has been surrounded by music. As a child he spent hours listening to a family record collection that included everything from classical to jazz, show tunes to pop and music from a variety of different cultures and countries. John has always been musical, piano lessons, school choir etc. Then he discovered the Beatles - life was good! He remembers spending his hard earned paper route money to buy every one of their records. A dream he had in high school changed his life. "I woke up the next morning and knew I had to have a guitar". He managed to wrangle his sister Ann's old beat up nylon string and he never looked back. He began taking classical lessons while teaching himself other styles and experimenting with songwriting and improvisation. John studied music at the University of Colorado Denver. Although professionally trained, his approach to music has always been an intuitive, emotional one, "I've always gotten more from just listening to and really experiencing music than from analyzing it". John started paying his dues not long after he got his first "real" guitar, a now well worn Fender Telecaster. After playing in several bands in the Boulder/Denver area, John decided it was time to strike out on his own. The result is his stunning debut CD: The Well The Songs John tells stories, stories of people that are familiar, stories that are real. From the post 9/11 rock anthem "The Rivers Still Flow" to the quiet, bittersweet tale of a doomed affair "The Light", these songs mirror the truths of the human condition in a vivid often visceral way. The Voice John is an insightful narrator of everyday America. With soulful delivery and emotional depth, his voice wanders through the alleys, past the bars and the cheap motels, observing, lamenting and celebrating. The Music John's guitar flows through the disc, from gentle finger picked acoustic to searing, electric riffs. The rhythms and textures are deep and rich and are complemented by some of Colorado's finest musicians including John Magnie (Subdudes), Nick Forster and Christian Teele (E Town), Bill McKay (Leftover Salmon), Ron Miles (Bill Frisell), Edwin Hurwitz (Great American Taxi) and more.
