Description

No Use Pretending on CD

Joan Marisa was sung to sleep each night by her father, who sang the great old folk songs and strummed his 1956 Gibson. Baby Joan, born and raised in Texas, grew into a mature singer/songwriter rooted in the folk tradition. She now makes her home in Austin, where she and her accompanist Dave Duce enjoy the supportive musical community. No Use Pretending is her first full album. In it she effortlessly floats between folk, rock, country, and even some blues. No Use Pretending is characterized by her piercing lyrics ('The Promised Land' is a feminist re-telling of the Adam and Eve tale) and her folky, gliding voice.
