Will Sing for Joy on CD

Looking for a CD where every single track sounds exactly the same, so that you can always say within the first few notes, 'Oh, that's DEFINITELY so-and-so'? Then you'd better move on; this isn't the CD for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a CD where each track embodies it's own unique style, yet they are all bound into coherency by honest, intelligible lyrics and a common ability to make your head bob, then look no further. 'Will Sing For Joy' is right up your alley! There's garage band adrenaline and Avril angst. There's acoustic balladry and down-home soul. There's a taste of Celtic fiddle at the beginning, a healthy portion of gospel and funk toward the end. Plus four more songs at other points along the map. Sound like a mix too diverse to pull off? Jillyn Chang succeeds marvelously, her vibrant voice shifting styles as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Adapting to styles truly is second nature for Jillyn. She grew up listening to everything from Disney soundtracks to dcTalk to the Bee Gees; she also developed a deep love of a cappella music through her own eclectic discoveries at the library and music stores. Oh, and she's been classically trained since age 15. This promising singer/songwriter looks to Sean Altman, Paul Simon, Michael Card, and Chris Rice as her lyrical heroes. With 'Will Sing For Joy,' her debut album, Jillyn hopes to communicate the joy she has received from walking with God through her struggles. 'Christianity should be honest and real, not shallow or preachy,' she says. Jillyn has been hooked on performing since age four. She sang solos in church and participated in a plethora of music, drama and dance performances throughout her homeschooled years. Some of her noteworthy ventures include creating the chamber ensemble RAIN with friends to raise funds for their June 2001 trip to Romania; singing backup for world-renowned Christian artist Steve Green (May 2003); and advancing to the Oregon semifinals of the Christian Music Talent Search with 'Glorify You,' her first song ever written and recorded (Sept. 2003). Inspired by the process of creating 'Glorify You,' Jillyn proceeded to record 'Will Sing For Joy' at Bartholomew Productions in Scappoose, Oregon. Guest artists include Nashville bassist Chris Kent and celebrated organist Roger Sause. Eclectic contemporary Christian music. With joy. Listen and feel it.
