Kid Dream [Import] on CD

A gorgeously light voice.., and heavy musicianship chops to match.' - Eye Weekly Magazine, Toronto, Canada 'The Few meld their undeniable pop instincts with a playful non-linear approach to jazz and crank up the charm.' - London Scene Magazine 'Stuart proves to be a gifted, jazz-influenced singer' - The Vancouver Province Toronto's Jessica Stuart is "a brand new voice on the music scene" (Garvia Bailey, CBC Radio 1) - while the surging rhythms are clearly rooted in the improvisational give-and-take of modern jazz and progressive folk, suffice it to say, Stuart seamlessly "melds the best of both.. packing the songs full of musical ideas that veer in unexpected directions." (Tabassum Siddiqui, Spinner Canada, AOL). Garnering enthusiastic media coverage from blogs as far away as Japan, Iceland and Turkey, The Jessica Stuart Few have emerged as one of the country's most exciting new trios since their 2010 release, Kid Dream. A uniquely gifted guitarist equally adept on koto (a 13-string traditional Japanese floor harp), Stuart cites as influences Stereolab, Dave Holland, Stevie Wonder, and Joni Mitchell. Although those choices may initially seem difficult to reconcile, a closer listen reveals strands of each, in this smartly woven musical tapestry, The Jessica Stuart Few's totally enchanting album, Kid Dream. Deftly produced and mixed by Stuart in conjunction with Mischa Chillak (Herb Alpert, K-OS), Kid Dream is much more than just a revealing document of Stuart's three-year creative collaboration with Charlie Haden-inspired double bass ace Dan Fortin and propulsive Jim Black-influenced percussionist Nico Dann, it represents the sum total of everything she's gleaned since growing up in Vancouver. The engaging 11-song expedition brings together the diverse cultural experiences of Stuart's time in Japan, Israel and Australia as well her various moonlighting musical ventures while showcasing her formidable string-slinger chops and compositional skills. The underlying theme in all of Stuart's uplifting music on Kid Dream is that it's important to make the most of every moment. As the group's extensive touring schedule might indicate, she's taken the wise adage to heart.
