Delta-Silly Music for Kids
- Artist: Jeremy Lyons
- Format: CD
- Release Date:1/20/2009
Jeremy Lyons is a former New Orleans street performer who has made a career playing clubs, festivals and special events around the US and Europe with his band 'The Deltabilly Boys.' Now he has launched his own brand of music for kids: 'Delta-Silly!' Taking his inspiration from such luminaries as Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie (Jeremy covers a Guthrie tune on this album), he presents simple, joyous folk music for children of all ages. Besides being part of long tradition of playing the old songs for the younger generations (thus keeping the music alive), it's also a lot of fun to listen to! The music is paired down and, unlike much of the music out there for young folks, it's not syrupy sweet, or over-produced, or watered down. Most of the songs feature Jeremy singing and playing one or two instruments -- six-string banjo, steel guitar, ukulele, harmonica. Jeremy is joined by the 'Delta-Silly Boys' ('Washtub' Robbie Phillips on one-string homemade bass, and Rob Rudin on washboard and percussion) on a rousing version of the classic worker-hero ballad 'John Henry.' Rudin also adds rhythm bones, one of the most ancient of instruments, on a couple more numbers. This one is sure to be a favorite of the whole family.
