What a Day! on CD

'Colorado Springs-by-way-of-Detroit singer/songwriter Jeremy Facknitz refers to his second album, What a Day!, as 'the nightmare to end all nightmares.' While this 2006 release represents his 'spare no expense' album, the one that was supposed to launch his commercial career, it didn't kick things off for him as he'd hoped. In fact, the stress and expense nearly had the opposite result. Facknitz is certainly an excellent singer-songwriter, and this record is a showcase for that. The songs are acoustic, folkish-pop in a vein that first draws to mind acts like the Barenaked Ladies, minus the overwhelming irritation that band induces. Emotional without being weepy, What a Day! Does not sound like an effort from some lo-fi, coffee shop troubadour, and maybe that's why Facknitz speaks less than lovingly about it. This recording is a full band effort since Facknitz-a solo artist-tours as a 'one-man band' of guitar, keys and trumpet. It will be interesting to see how these songs translate in a live environment. Bottom line is, they're well-crafted pop songs, and if his live show maintains the same level of quality as this release does, he should be well worth checking out.'
