Legacy on CD

James Kamp is a singer-songwriter who has been making music in and around Columbia, MO since 1984. Starting just out of school with roots-soul rockers Train Of Sparks, Kamp met Eddie Boster in 1986 and formed the indefinable Dreams About Guns, which burned up countless bars and benefits from Fayetteville to Chicago, before burning itself out in 1991, leaving only beer-stained memories and one self-titled album. Next Kamp and Boster formed the more roots-oriented Fugitive Kind with sister group The Folk-Ups, which continue to this day. Fugitive Kind have put out one CD titled 'Glory Road.' Kamp is also a member of Wooden Voices, an acoustic-electric 7-piece band featuring keys, mandolin, violin, cello and congas (as well as four-part haromony) besides the regular percussion line-up. And then there are the Blue Jays, a once-a-month outfit that plays traditional folk and gospel for the residents of the nursing home where Kamp works as a physical therapist. 'Legacy' is James Kamp's first solo release. Utilizing the same mix of instruments as Wooden Voices, plus an accordion, 'Legacy' is about where the composer is from, with songs about his growing up, past and current friends, his brother and his wife Carla. People who've touched his life. The artwork includes photos of his parents and grandparents as well as one of a friend at the nursing home who is subject of the song 'So long, Clyde.' 'Legacy' also marks Kamp's decision to finally make music his vocation, not just his hobby. To that end, he is avalible for bookings of all kinds and, depending on availability, will bring instrumentalists to suit the date. Some raves for previous work: 'This rocking band has wide appeal in their hometown of Columbia. Very tight, very enjoyable live-you can't help but like Dreams About Guns.' Pitch, 'Kansas City's News and Arts Weekly' 'Kamp's vocal work is raw and energetic...when they hit the stage be prepared for driving rhythm, emotional catharsis and a lot of fun.' The Note, Lawrence Kansas, on Fugitive Kind 'The Folk-Ups survive into a top-rate folk-rock group packing places they play and creating a shockwave in the local folk scene.'
