Feggri Mou on CD

Swiss-Italian Ivo Antognini is a rather singular composer and Jazz pianist. In his music influences of a solid classical education are noticeable (especially Bach, Ravel, and Debussy), yet the imprint of Keith Jarrett and a passion for Mediterranean music combined allow for a unique blend of unmistakable fine Jazz. Ivo Antognini blatantly despises pre-packaged patterns. His refined pianism, lyrical and elegant, always succeeds in being fresh and unpredictable. A composer of prolific output, Ivo Antognini has written the soundtracks to around forty films and documentaries and his discography comprises three Jazz albums with his own compositions and around twenty CDs with music composed especially for television. Ivo Antognini has played among others with Franco Ambrosetti, Danilo Moccia, Hans Kennel, Matthias Daneck, and Oliviero Giovannoni. 'Feggàri mou', which in Greek means 'Moon of mine', is Ivo Antognini's third Jazz album after 'The Dark Cloud' and 'Inspiration'. A distinct voice, an accordion, saxophones, the bassetthorn, the French horn and the flugelhorn alternating along side the piano trio, lend each of the eight pieces on this album an atmosphere of unique timbre! What a lovely album! Ivo Antognini's first U.S. release is refreshing and original. His piano playing is clean, unique and heartfelt. All but one of these brilliant songs was composed by Ivo. The album dances from beginning to end with interesting arrangements. Each song is a different experience using a myriad of instruments. While this album is predominantly jazz in style, he brings in Brazilian influences and vocals that are mesmerizing and enchanting (...) - review by Carol Duboc Higdon (Wine and Music) The music is beautiful and lyrical. Antognini's fingers dance across the piano elegantly yet with a delicate power. His notes and sounds satiate the space from track to track (...) The scat of Oskar Boldre on "Take the Happy Train" will grip your heart with sensual textures in one moment and then gradually smooth out the next (...) The "Ivo Antognini Jazz Project" melds together outstanding musicians, making the music of this project seduce the sophisticated jazz purist. - review by Ana Isabel Ordonez - Jazzreview This self-produced album was in the top 150 of prestigious American charts (Mediaguide Jazz Radio Report) and was at no. 94 in January 2006 Ivo Antognini: piano (Switzerland) Stefano Dall'Ora: double bass (Italy) Silvano Borzacchiello: drums (Switzerland) with Oskar Boldre: voice (Italy) Arno Haas: saxophones (Germany) Jochen Feucht: saxophones & bassetthorn (Germany) Marco Brioschi: flugelhorn (Italy) Claudio Pontiggia: French horn (Switzerland) Marco Fratantonio: accordion (Switzerland) and Danilo Moccia: additional trombone (Switzerland)
