THE HEAD SET is: Jordan Blaugrund - Vocals, Guitar Eliot Wadsworth - Guitar Brett Sherman - Bass Michael Blaugrund - Drums 'Saw a hot new band at the Mercury last night. The Head Set. Phenomenal singer. Looks like Ian Mac from the Bunnymen, maybe a young Nick Cave, belts like Morrison in his lower register, like Sting in his high, a plaintive Ray Davies croon throughout. Done up in a sharp wool jacket and jeans, the outfit makes him sweat and tha's alright. A cute boy and he knows it. Plays a little guitar, some credible leads but mainly it's a prop to swing 'round back - hey Elvis - like so many before him. Right, what else are ya gonna do with the thing when you're in the middle of a number? Excellent drummer as well, loud, tight and polyrhythmic like Stuart Copeland. As it happens, they are brothers. Lead guitar is a thin white duke, wears his guitar way up high, you know he's into jazz but he slaps them bluesy riffs down with authority. Guy on bass has a sweet, rubbery tone and a serious mop of hair...Sound? I know you're thinking 'bout The Police and yeah that's there. Mebbe a little U2 as well but hooray, The Head Set has more soul than either - they're not English, no matter how hard they try. They've got a song called '1982' that's killer. Anthemic thing with an all-purpose refrain: 'You're changing...' By Jim Santo, for DemoUniverse.com (8.24.03)
