Myself Again on CD

Mike Grutka's album Myself Again has a soft rock feel mixed with a slight throw back to the 70's classic rock era. The lead singer sounds remarkably like Michael Stipe, the lead singer from REM. The album is creative, enjoyable, and all the songs have an ease to them which makes it a relaxed listen. Review by: Sally Niezer Posted by wiux Thursday, October 11th, 2007 at 7:13 pm "...indeed a fine piece of ear candy." Sapitot Records 'These are great songs. I love the songwriting and the arrangements are so strong. You steal from all the greats and make it your own and new. Nobody is writing music like this.' Larry Divivo - Silvertone Mastering 'Myself Again' the highly anticipated new CD is here, a highly personal, yet jubilant collection of new songs. Mike's music is: "Acoustic based funky modern roots rock n roll." Often compared to a combination of R.E.M., Dave Matthews, Neil Young and Phish, Mike spent the last year writing and recording material for the new CD in his own Morg-n-Daze studios. Incorporating acoustic rock with classical textures as well as world-pop rhythms and sing-along vocal harmonies, the results are the best work of his musical career. "This is my third album but in a lot of ways I feel like it's the one I've been trying to produce. The sounds in my head are actually coming through the speakers. This is the first time I listen back and think, 'wow, this is MY sound.' Fan's reaction the new material has been overwhelmingly positive." A classically trained violinist, Mike plays nearly every instrument on this CD as well as writing, producing, recording and arranging duties. I wrote the song, 'Myself Again' and it just seemed like where I am in life. Overall, the songs are very hopeful and uplifting and forward looking. I couldn't be happier with it. As a whole, this is the best album I've written." 'Myself Again' again shows the large stylistic shifts that have become a hallmark of his style. 'I'm Awake' kicks things into high gear right away with the propulsive bass line locking into the driving electric guitars. 'Shine' is an acoustic sing a long that recalls the vocal styles of great 60's music a la The Beach Boys. 'Myself Again' has drawn comparison to Phish. Continuing on the album includes latin tinged rhythms and guitars on "Things We Left Behind" "Light" recalls the balladry of Radiohead on Fake Plastic Trees while 'Summertime' and 'This Dream' show the rhythmic interplay that Mike has become known for. Check it out. Tell all your friends. Buy another one. Peace.
